My website was outdated. Badly. It still said I was the CEO of a company I had sold. It linked to an old domain. And it looked like 2019. Because, it turned out, it was built on a theme from 2019.

I knew it needed work. I just never got around to it.
I know WordPress. Just not that part.
I have worked with WordPress for many years. Writing posts, editing pages, adding a new page: no problem. I do that all the time.
But changing how my site looks? That is a different story. Themes, templates, layouts. I never learned that. Whenever I wanted something to look different, I had to ask someone. And, updating old content is boring. So, I did not like that part of website maintenance.
A chatbot that already knew me
However, now I could use a tool – the AI connector- that connects my WordPress site to my very own AI assistant. The AI assistant I use every day, in my case Claude. I added it in a few clicks. Then I could simply ask Claude to look at my website.
What made this so nice: Claude already knew a lot about me. It knew where I work, that I teach and that I am a council member. So I did not have to explain who I am. It could immediately see what was missing on my site. And what was no longer true.
How we worked together
I started with a simple question. My homepage needs updating. What do you think?
Claude read my homepage and gave me an honest answer. The text was out of date. My current job was not mentioned at all. A link pointed to my old domain. And then it asked a good question: who is this page for?
So I told it what I wanted. A clear picture of everything I do. Including my council work, which was not on the site at all. Claude wrote a new text. I gave a few corrections and said: go ahead. A minute later, it was live.
That became our rhythm. Claude made a suggestion. I said yes, no, or “a bit different”. And then it was done.
We updated my About page. We removed an old coaching page I no longer offer, and took it out of the menu too. Then I said the layout felt old. Claude gave me two options: refresh the current design, or switch to a new theme. We went for the refresh.
The homepage got a short “What I do” section. The images of my blog posts are now all the same size. I uploaded a few photos, and Claude picked the professional one for the top of my homepage. It even cropped it so my head would not be cut off. Later, I felt the homepage was a bit cluttered. So we removed a block. Just like that.
Fast and easy
The whole thing took about an hour and a half. Most of that time, I was reading, thinking and deciding. Not clicking around in settings I do not understand.
Not everything could be done through the chat. A few small things I had to do myself in WordPress. But Claude told me exactly where to click, so that took me a minute.
What I liked most
I stayed in control. Claude made suggestions, I decided. I did not have to know how anything worked. I only had to know what I wanted. And that is exactly how it should be.
